Florence Italy hotel

I recently changed my dates to Italy from early September to late September. I thought the prices of hotels and B&Bs would go down but was unfortunately surprised they went up. Anyhow now I have to rebook my hotels throughout Italy and my Florence hotel Davanzati went up more than $100 a night. Does anyone have a suggestion of a nice place to stay between the Duomo and Uffizi?

The original Roman quadrilateral is the most expensive spot in Florence.
Look into La Scaletta, just across the Ponte Vecchio in the Oltrarno area. It’s just 5 min walk to the Uffizi and maybe 10 to the Duomo.

Was hoping for under $200 a night. Was paying $500 for early September but now it’s over $800

I was under the impression that the “best” place to stay is between the Duomo and the Uffizi. Am I wrong? Reading reviews I do hear often how loud many people say about their hotels.

OP: the area you describe is about the noisiest in Florence , in my opinion.
I’ve stayed in Florence 8 times, and after one apartment in that area, have since stayed well away from it.
Much nicer and quieter across the river.

I like the area near the Duomo because it's convenient to everything. However, I haven't been since summer of 2008 and understand that the crowds have gotten much worse.

Not sure who says that or why.

Noise would be an issue as that whole area is filled with tourists.

Florence is easily walkable. Longest jaunt is up to the Piazzale Michelangelo.

Take a look at Room Mate Luca. Your price range. Read Trip Advisor reviews and see if you think it suits your budget and travel needs.
I’ve not stayed there. I rented elsewhere one Christmas but a family friend liked Room Mate when he was in Florence for business.

$500-$800 per night is what one would expect to pay for a room at the Excelsior, St. Regis or maybe even the Four Seasons. I think any hotel asking that price in the Duomo-Uffizi area is ripping you off.

The Oltrarno is the (almost) undiscovered area of Florence. Quiet while still pretty hip. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Duomo, and along the way there are lots of little artisan shops where you can watch furniture, shoes, and jewelry being created. Check in the Santo Spirito area for great places to eat and drink and further south for hotels and apartments.

Sorry. I meant to say the hotel went up from $500 to $800 for three nights. Big difference. Lol.

Take a look at Casa del Garbo, on Piazza Vecchio - we just stayed there for 2 nights and loved it. It's a small B&B-type hotel. It was quiet at night, great location close to Ufizzi and if you check on their website (google it) you may get a better rate. We've stayed there on both of our visits to Florence and would stay there again.

I enjoyed the Hotel Degli Orafi. The price varies depending on the size of the room and the time of year, I believe. The rooftop restaurant/bar was lovely, and it's very convenient.

If you're okay with basic -- we have enjoyed the RS-recommended Hotel Dali and their nearby apartment. Just down the street from the Duomo, but pretty quiet.

We love the Loggiata de Serveti four blocks north of the Duomo...which is nice quiet neighborhood and around the corner from the Academica Museum with Michelangerlo's David. The Duomo-Uffizi area is too noisy and crowded for us (AC is not so common, so open windows are).

Having said that, on our summer trip around Europe last summer we relied on Booking.com and found that as long as we picked hotels rated higher than 8.5 we were fine. 9.0 hotels are common too for about the same price so start high and move down if you need to. I just checked for the third week in September and came up with 211 hotels less than 1/2 mile from the city center, up to $160/ night, and rated 9 or better. 233 were listed for the last week in September.
