My husband and I will be in Florence for Halloween. Does anyone know if Halloween is celebrated and if so, anywhere we can go to take part in festivities?
How about a ghost tour? Google "Halloween in Florence, Italy".
Halloween is now celebrated, but it has been imported in recent years (it wasn't when I lived there).
By celebrated I mean that youngsters go to dancing clubs dressed with scary costumes, but it's not an official holiday.
The places advertising Halloween events tend to be bars and restaurants catering to younger Italians and students studying abroad. I haven't seen any events targeted specifically towards adults.
All Saints' Day is the holiday in Italy, but it's a Catholic holiday honoring . . . all the saints and one's forebears. It's a day for visiting the cemetery and leaving flowers at the graves of loved ones, etc. Yes, our Halloween derives from it, but it's an altogether different perspective and approach.
