I am going to Florence for the first time in a few months. I am traveling solo. I am thinking of staying at a convent called Casa per Feve Suare Oblate. I would like any other suggestions of low cost but nice accomodations. Also, it is located in the historic area and I am wondering if I can get a taxi from the train station as I have some difficulty with long walks.
You are only a couple blocks from the train station. Walking to the taxi stand will be about half way to your hotel. I have stayed here and have no complaints about the place. It will be a bit of a walk to other attractions but I think if you take it slow it may be doable for you.
The correct name of this convent is Casa per Ferie Suore Oblate. It's very close to the train station (300 meters according to the web site, a 5 minute walk).
An option that might work well for you if walking is a problem is pedicabs. In addition to transport, there are tours available.
Look at making reservations as soon as you can pin down your dates. I tried to stay there and they were full. And I tried almost a year in advance.
Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it. Any suggestions for accomodatiions closer to the heart of the old town area??? Is it easy to get the pedicabs???
All I know about the pedicabs is that I saw them when I was in Florence. I never used one, so I don't know if you have to reserve or if you can just hail one on the street.
I stayed at Il Salotto di Firenze (http://ilsalotto.difirenze.eu/, or on booking.com: (http://www.booking.com/Share-A9vSgZ). Perfect location and very nice rooms.
Lane, That is a beautiful hotel and priced right for a single room. It is only partially available for the time period I am looking at. Thank you. I really like it.
