My daughter and I are planning a day trip to Florence, Italy from Verona where we will both be staying. I am making advance reservations for the Uffizi and the Accademia (The David) as Rick suggests in his book. I am unsure what times to make the reservations as it appears that these sites are on the opposite ends of town. We will be arriving by train at 9:30 a.m. Does anyone know how long it takes to get to both these sites from the train station and what are the best means of transportation to get there? Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
The walk to each museum from the train station is about 15-20 minutes. Between the 2 sites, is a 10-15 minute walk. I've been to L'Accademia twice, and I haven't stayed beyond an hour each time. It's a small place and very easy to get around to the exhibits. The Uffizi is quite large, so plan on being there longer.
"We will be arriving by train at 9:30 a.m."
In setting the time for your advance reservation at your first museum, you'll probably want to allow for the possibility (likelihood?) that your train might just be a little late (Trenitalia is not the German train system).
If pressed, you could cab it from either destination to/from SMN station, but the walks are nice, I would recommend walking if you have the time/energy. I will echo the sentiments on the time involved in both museums, the Uffizi can be a bit intimidating, so schedule in a break on their wonderful rooftop cafe :)
Thanks so much to all of you for your replies! This was extremely helpful. I thought I had to take a bus. My daughter and I would much prefer to walk. Thanks again!
