Florence in one day in July

Four of us are going to be in Florence in the middle of July. Could anyone recommend if we should take a tour or do our own thing?

The tour we are considering includes Accademia, Uffizi Gallery and walk around the city and Duomo (not going inside). It is a 6 hours tour. Our plan is to do (as suggested in Rick Steves book) everything that I mentioned in the tour plus Duomo museum and climbing the dome (separate from tour) and Bargello Museum.
We are staying just outside Florence for about 3 days but only plan to go in Florence 1 day.

Thank you in advance for any suggestion!

Take the tour if the transportation is included that way you don't have to figure out how to get to where you want to go.

A tour makes sense here. You would have a difficult time trying to arrange and see those major sights on your own inside of six hours. Not that you can’t, but with four people you kind of need a referee.

I'm not sure you'll be able to do everything on your list in one day. You mention a 6-hour tour, 2 additional museums and a dome climb, and then there's your travel time to and from Florence and 1 or 2 meals. That's a lot to try to accomplish even if all your meals are quick (a mistake imo considering how good the food is in Florence). I suggest you prioritize the non-tour activities in case you run out of time or energy.
