We are doing a day trip to Florence from Lucca area. Not 100% on our day trip itinerary but would like to see the Uffizi and Academia galleries as well as the Galileo Museum which is on the backside of the Uffizi. Thinking of reserving a morning ticket to Uffizi, then go to Galileo then reserve a late afternoon for Academia which is across town it looks like. I can't seem to discern if the Galileo exhibit is part of the Uffizi or a separate Museum and ticket all together? Does anyone else know? Any other must do's while we are in Florence? About how much time should we allow for each museum?
Grazie!
That Museum Galileo is separate.
3 museums in one day would seem to be pushing it in a crowded with tourists Florence
The Museo Galileo is separate from the Uffizi. Website says 9€ admission for adults. I'd suggest 3 hours minimum for the Uffizi - more would be better. The Academia is catticorner from the Museo San Marco, where Fra Angelico lived and worked, and I'd certainly recommend seeing that, especially the upstairs where he painted frescos in all the monastic cells.
That’s a lot, but not impossible if you reserve your tickets. You should give the Uffizi about three hours. Academia is can be done fairly quickly. You’re just there for Michelangelo. Galileo Museum can be done within a hour.
First of all the Accademia is not across town from the Uffizi. Both are in the city center and you can walk from one to the other in about 15 min.
A day is kind of short for Florence and if you intend to visit the 3 museums you mentioned, you will be pretty much museumed out when you are done, but you can Google TOP 10 (or TOP 20) THINGS TO SEE IN FLORENCE (or anything similar) and you can find plenty of ideas. Of course any of the suggestions you'll see online will be somewhat different because there are scores of world reknown sights and each person will likely choose their top 10 among those (including Rick Steves).
The Galileo Museum is a one minute walk from the Uffizi, and the Accademia is an 18 minute walk from the Galileo. That should be a great day. For me, an hour was enough for the Galileo Museum - it was great, but I'm more of an art person. I would give myself 4 hours between entry times for the Uffizi and Accademia, to include time for a leisurely lunch.
If you have time, the Bargello is a great museum and you should be able to just walk in.

Thank you for your help! Another question- I am booking for a group of us- what are the differences between full price(24 eu), reduced(14 eu) and who qualifies for free? We have 4 teenagers(12-17) traveling with us and the rest of us are adults.
Reduced and free tickets are generally reserved to citizens of the European Union under/over a certain age (free admission for EU citizens under 18 or over 65 for example) or certain professionals (EU tour guides or teachers while accompanying groups, for example).
The details are below. If you are not a citizen of the EU, you probably don’t qualify.
We are in Italy now with an 11 and 14 year old (we are US citizens). Many museums allow kids under 18 in for free (from anywhere). The official Uffizi site says that all children under 18 are free, but the “reduced” ticket is for euro students between 18 and 25. We have reserved the free tickets on their website (2 euro reservation fee) for the kids and full price tickets for us . Hope that helps:)
Yes, thank you all for your help!
If it were me, I would drop Galileo. I was really looking forward to doing that museum, and I was bored after about 10 minutes. And I like science!! If I only had a day trip, Uffizi and Academia for sure. I'd spend the rest wondering the streets, get a gelato, hit a leather market, hit the central market for lunch, climb the bell tower.. Florence is wonderful, it's a shame you only get a day trip... Enjoy!!
