Florence hotels

Can anyone suggest Rick Steves latest recommendations for hotels in Florence? We've stayed at the Residenza Il Villino two years ago and found it to be very nice. Giovanni, the owners son in law referred us to wonderful restaurants and even the best place to have shoes made. We're considering staying there again but also thinking about experiencing something new.

On the BOE 21 day tour in Sept 2014, we stayed at Hotel California! It was very nice and very convenient. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from the Galleria dell'Accademia and a 4-minute walk from the Duomo di Firenze. Just don't have your laundry done by them as it was the most expensive of our 21 day trip.

We have great memories of Sergio and Elizabeth at Residenza Il Villino many years ago in Florence. Last year we stayed at Hotel Pendini and thought they were great also.

Kathy,

How long will you be in Florence? Our most recent trip to Florence (part of a Venice-Florence-Rome 2 week trip), we stayed in apartments. We found rental apartments the way to go because we had room to spread out and relax, had a kitchen to prepare American-style breakfasts, and an espresso/coffee maker for the morning pick-me-up. The cost for three of us was cheaper than two hotel rooms but gave us a lot more room to relax in the evening. We also had clothes washing machines which was a big plus!

Todd, We'll be using Florence as our base for a week, then on to Pienza for another week. Do they rent apts by the week and how did you go about finding one?
