Florence Hotel Suggestion for Early Flight

Hi,

We've been to Florence a few times and have loved staying around the Duomo. However, we're flying home from Florence and we have a 7:05 a.m. flight (yes, crazy, but that's what was available with airline miles). Where is the best location to stay for a quick and easy ride to the airport? We'll be dropping off a rental car after spending a few nights in Tuscany, so someplace accessible or a short walk from public transportation would be helpful!

Thanks!

If you fly to North America, there are few alternatives to an early flight out of Florence, since you need to connect to another European hub first, and flights to North America from those hubs generally leave in the morning.

I'd still stay in the city center. The Florence airport is probably one of the closest to the city center (3.5 miles from the Duomo). A taxi will take you there in 10-15 min, especially that early.

You have to be at the airport by 6:05am for your intra European flight and one hour prior to departure is more than enough in Florence. The airport is very small and there are only 6 flights departing between 6:30 and 9 am, you'll be done checking in and going through security in 5-10 minutes.

At 5.30am any place in central Florence is no more than 15 minutes distant from the airport by taxi. A clever thing to do is reserving your taxi the day before (ask your hotel concierge or phone 055-4390 or 055-4798), so no time gets lost searching for one on the travel day.

The airport is tiny but several flights leave in early morning (basically, all major companies fly a connecting flight to their home base at same time), so consider the possibility of check-in counters and security controls being a little crowded. Arrive with some safety margin.

In my experience flying out of Florence for a couple of decades, 1 hour is more than enough, especially in the past couple years after they opened the new check-in hall with 40 positions/counters.

These are the only 6 flights departing in the early morning, and all in small jets (Embraer 195 or A318/A319):

AMS 06:30 (KLM)
MUC 06:45 (Lufthansa/Air Dolomiti)
MAD 07:00 (Vueling)
CDG 07:05 (AirFrance)
FRA 07:15 (Lufthansa Regional)
FCO 07:30 (Alitalia)

That's it!! The next departures will be over 2 hours later at 09:45

I have a 6:30 AM flight out of Florence in June and I am staying at Il Gueflo Bianco. It looks the the airport is 7-1Okm from the city. You should be fine anywhere you stay.

Thanks everyone! We already have the 7:05 a.m. flight booked so we're locked into it. Now to find a place to stay as our favorite place requires a 2 night stay :(
