Florence Hotel Recommendation

Our family is planning a trip to Florence for New Year's. Does anyone have a hotel recommendation? We are thinking of the Residenza il Villimino. Reviews seem excellent. Also, suggestions as how to plan a trip during this holiday time are appreciated. Thanks much!

Holiday closures of places you want to see will be an issue, you may want to check books and websites to determine on which days nothing much will be open and then figure out what to do on those days.

I stayed at the Pitti Palace hotel and really liked it. It has a roof top terrace that overlooks the Duomo although it may not be open due to the weather. It's very central - right at the end of the Ponte Vecchio on the Palace side. Clean rooms and good breakfast and they have internet access in a lounge area on the first floor. Nice little bars and interesting shops in the same stree.

Residenza Il Villino would be an excellent choice. It just can't be beat! It's got all of the charactistics that you could want. Price, Proximity, Cleanliness, Great Travel reviews and to top it off you've got Sergio who will make your stay feel like you are at home.

We stayed at the Hotel Silla when in Florence.
It's VERY clean, quiet area, nice staff, really great breakfasts, walking distance of Pitti Palace and other things. Very 'Italian' hotel. Oh, it also has a lift! :)

Hey! We're going to be in Florence at New Year's too! We are staying at the Hotel Alessandra. We've never been to Florence before, so I cannot comment on the hotel personally, but it is a hotel that is in Rick's "Florence 2007" book, so we're going to trust him on this.

Maybe we'll see you there.

Good Luck!

You know, sometimes I don't completely understand (or agree) with Rick on his selected hotels. We've stayed in some of his picks that have been absolutely perfect...simple, rustic, friendly. But sometimes we've chosen a different hotel based on tripadvisor's ratings - like the Residenza Il Villino, and it would appear to fit Ricks personal tastes perfectly. Being a Mom & Pop run place with cheap, clean, close-in and friendly facilities the Residenza Il Villino definitely deserves to be included in Rick's Florence accomodations.

My husband and I are leaving for Italy in 2 weeks and have reservations at Residenza Il Villino. Sergio has been most helpful in making reservations for the Ufizi Gallery and the Acadamia while we are there.

This B&B is included in Rick Steves 2006 book. That is where I learned about it. I have heard nothing but good things about it. I will let you know how we like it when we return.

Cheryl,

My wife and I stayed at Il Villino in Florence for eight nights in September. It is absolutely fantastic. The owner Sergio and his wife make you feel extremely welcome and will go out of their way to assist you on restaurant recommendations, make reservations at museums etc. and ensure you have all the comforts of home. They have a beautiful courtyard in the middle of the hotel where you can have breakfast, or just sit and relax with a glass of wine if you choose. The location is excellent as well. We have been recommending this hotel to our friends.

My wife and I are planning on returning to Florence and our first priority will be to book at Il Villino.

My wife and I will be in Florence for the Christmas holiday this year, as well. We're staying at the Hotel Pendini, recommended by Rick in his Italy guidebook. To this point, the staff at Pendini have been WONDERFUL, booking us Christmas Eve dinner at Trattoria 13 Gobbi and a reservation for the morning of the 26th at the Accademia to see David. They can be emailed at pendini@florenceitaly.net if you haven't booked, yet. Good luck!

Cheryl,
I'll recommend you "Hotel David" I think is one of the best :)
