I would like a hotel recommendation for a hotel near the train station arriving from Lucca for one night before going back to US. Not fancy but clean for 2 beds. Thanks

Check to see if www.monasterystays.com has something
We stayed at Annabella Hotel on Fiume (I think). It is close to the train station, easy walk to the tram to the airport. It does fill up because it seems to be a favorite with groups.
Use www.booking.com or also www.TripAdvisor.com and see what you like near the station that is within your budget. The piazza where the station is would be a bit nosier but any side street would be fine.
We always stay here.

It is directly across the street from the train station (next door to McDonald's). It is a wonderful stay, clean, and very friendly.
We did well across from the station many years ago by taking a "rear" room, with a rather green view from the window. I hope it's still undeveloped today! I'm sure the hotel name has changed by now, but it could have been Byron. You might want to spend some extra on air conditioning and double-pane windows, then it wouldn't matter.
What city are you flying home from? Do you know it takes two trains to the Rome airport? What time is your flight?
I think the Byron is still there on Via Della Scala. But I don't think there is anything green around. Maybe it was another hotel that had windows on the Orti Oricellari, a botanical park.
We stayed at Hotel Boccaccio last month for 2 nights it was a 5 min walk to train station. Small but super helpful staff very clean large bathroom and a nice simple breakfast.
