We are extending our stay an extra day after the tour ends in Florence. Our flight departs at 6:30am the next morning so we are looking for something affordable, close to the airport and ideally with airport transportation. Any suggestions?

The Florence airport is just outside of town. I would suggest staying at the hotel where you end your tour, and arranging for an early taxi. It's a short ride to the airport, particularly at that time of the morning. This will allow you to enjoy your last day and night in Florence.

Sherry - thank you so much for the response. I failed to mention that hotel we will be at for the tour is booked for that additional night, so we are looking for another good option. Let me know if you have any other suggestions! Thanks!

As Sherry mentioned, the Florence airport is just a short distance from town so it shouldn't be any trouble to get there for your flight. I'd suggest staying in Florence so you can enjoy your last evening there. It would be a good idea to ask the hotel staff to pre-arrange a Taxi for the following morning.
If your tour hotels is fully booked, it shouldn't be hard to find a room in one of the other hotels.

It's a 10 min taxi ride from the city center (just over 3 miles), so no need to move to a hotel near the airport. The airport is so close to downtown you can hear the planes from the Duomo. All you need is to be at the airport 1 hr prior to departure. It's a small airport with small regional jet. There are only 5 flights departing in the morning before 10am, check-in takes seconds. The security line is never over 5 min. long.
