Hi guys..
So it appears I might have some time on my hands after visiting my friend's villa in tuacany and staying there with my mother...I am going to have some time in between meeting an old friend..i am looking for a hotel around $100/night(to save money from renting an apt)..Any good reccomendations for a hotel for a solo woman traveler..I'd like to walk to some piazzas..Somewhere I can walk around on foot at night and back to the hotel..safely...Thanks...Susan
I stayed at the Relais Uffizi on the piazza Della Signoria in Florence, great location and a very charming hotel, with old world feel. And you are right in the center of things, don't have to walk very far to see the best sights. I think cost may be about double the price you are looking for however... check TripAdvisor for deals, and customer reviews. It's rated #56 of 491 Florence hotels by TripAdvisor. I recommend it.
I stayed at the Hotel Maxim in Florence and will be going back there on my next trip in 2011. Amazing location. It's less than a block from the Duomo on the main walking street that leads to the Uffizi (about 3 blocks away). Should be in your price range or a just a little over. Simple (ie, linoleum floors, old tiny elevator, quirky, homey, small rooms, tiny bathroom with shower). But it met my needs. I felt perfectly safe there, and it was great to hear the bells of the Duomo each day. I was out after dark, just not really late; but I'd guess it would be safe... the street is a very elegant pedestrian shopping area, and it's about as central a tourist area as you can get.
thanks guys..I will write them down...I was even thinking of Lucca because I have to take my mother to the Pisa Airport and I'll be solo after that...
I also stayed at the Hotel Maxim during my visit to Florence and the location was ideal!! On a busy street right in the heart of things, you will not need to fear being isolated. and its a quick walk to all the major sights. I'm going to Florence next month, and we are staying at the Hotel Archi Rossi. I have never been before, but its supposed to be the best hostel in Florence. Not sure how you feel about hostels as an option, but just throwing it out there. hipe it helps!
Susan,
Lucca is certainly a great place to visit, and on a budget you will probably have better luck finding accomodations in your price range. When I was there, I don't recall ever feeling anxious about safety.
Thanks guys..After leaving my mother andthe hectic travelling I'm going to need some sleep+alone time..I did a hostel in Positanto it was ok..Maybe I'll keep it in mind,Thanks so much!!.My trip went from "can't wait" to completely stressful"...because of certain circumstacnes..Thanks though it really helps to hear from people since I know Rome very well and i don't know Florence at all...
Thanks rhonda..What happened is i'm supposed to go to a spa hotel with my mom for two days, then two days in cinque terre, then 5days in tuscany with probably two days trips in Florence...After that I am taking car with my mother back to Pisa Airport...So from there I want to stay put for a bit..be it Lucca or Florence...I was supposed to meet up with my ex-boyfriend who lives in tialy..We were arranging to go two weeks to his friends in venice..Everything was supposed to be better organized towards the time I leave..but I havne;t been able to get intouch with him lately and he thinks I'm leaving at a later date I fear..So my trip is for almost a month..which will leave me with 18 or so days....i really hope he comes through!!..Otherwise i will leave to come home early without seeing him..We've gone back and forth for 6years...i haven't sen him in 2 years...With the language barrier sometimes we misunderstand each other..SIGH...Just really worried right now:(
We also stayed at the Hotel Maxim. Great central location, you would feel very safe walking at night. Great price, included breakfast too. Very helpful front desk staff.
Last fall, we had a delightful stay at a B&B called Casa dei Tintori, http://www.casadeitintori.it/en/. The hosts are wonderful, and Valeria provides a delicious breakfast. It's near Santa Croce, but within a 10-minute walk of Piazza della Repubblica. Very safe area, both early and late. For a single room, it should be in your price range (depending on when you'll be traveling).
If you're looking for quiet, I will throw out Casa Santo Nome di Gesu - a convent(fmmfirenza.it). It shows up on a map NW of the Pitti Palace/Boboli Gardens about halfway to the river. My husband and I have stayed there - we knew there were many others staying there, but never saw them. Except at breakfast. We had only a sink in our huge room, but we never met anybody while trotting around in our pjs going to and fro from the bath/showers/toilet.
Single w/sink: 45 Euros
Single w/shower: 50 Euros
Single w/bath: 60 Euros
TripAdvisor reviews are very positive, and I vouch for the photos posted by the reviewers (and on the convent's website). (I'm not sure what the problem is, but the reviews are scattered over several different posts on TripAdvisor...you don't need to read every single one, though!) The cars in the lot mostly stay there - long-term parking for residents. It's a simple, even spartan, place - it's a convent! - but its humble simplicity is refreshing after the overload of art in Florence. We walked around late at night often, and never gave safety a second thought. Great restaurants literally around the corner, and the Brancacci Chapel is NEXT DOOR. (yea!) There is an 11:30 PM curfew...
Good luck with your plans!
I stayed at La Dimora del Centro for 85 euros by myself last fall and it was absolutely fantastic in every way.
Hi there..Deb I looked at that place ..it looks very lovely...But they don't have any availabilty for the days I need:(..It seems Hotel Maxim is preferred..My friend might come for a few days..Will it suffice? I don't want to be embarrassed..it;s; one thing dealing with it alone but for his first trip to italy..should I find something better??I saw pictures..it seems alright...
