Florence Hilton

Because we have so many Hilton Points saved up, we're cashing them in for our 4-night stay in Florence in a couple of weeks. Is there a bus line that runs from the Hilton Garden Inn (Via Sandro Pertini 2/9) into the city center every morning? We have a 9.00 reservation at the Accademia on 30Apr and I don't want to miss it!

We did the same and stayed at the Hilton Metropole. I see on the maps that you are much closer to the airport. At the Metropole, they had a shuttle that travelled frequently during the day between the hotel and the train station. I don't know if the Garden Inn has a similar shuttle. The bus system for Florence can be viewed at www.ataf.net. If you can figure out the bus number (I can't), you can probably view the route. If not, I'm sure the hotel will tell you where the nearest bus stop is.

You might also ask the hotel where you buy tickets for the bus. We rode back on the bus late one evening and the bus driver sold us the ticket but it didn't look like a normal process. Then, you have to validate your ticket in a little yellow box on the bus (just like the train station).

We also burned up our points for the Hilton in Venice and Zurich. It was simply outstanding.

Thanks, Larry! We'll be taking the train into Florence from Rome, so hopefully we can find a good bus from there to the hotel also to get checked in before heading out into the city.

I'll be sure to check with the front desk and see what bus line they recommend.

Actually, the bus station is adjacent to the train station. As you get off your train from Rome, walk to the common platform just in front of the engine and turn left. Walk out that side exit and across the street. The bus station is right there. They have an information window there as well. In my experience, they didn't speak English. But, I bet that if you show them a nice map of where you are going, they can tell you which bus to get on and sell you tickets. Hopefully, that's not too risky. Or, it's probably a 15Euro taxi ride. Also, they charge about 3Euro extra for luggage. Taxis are located outside the front of the station.

And, get started right away. That's why we had to ride the late bus. We checked in about 4:00pm and immediately jumped on the shuttle to the train station. We wanted t nose around and have a late dinner. It's really fun stuff.
