I see in Rick's tips that hotels will make advance reservations for you for the Uffizi and Accademia. We are planning on staying at the Tourist house Ghiberti in October; TripAdvisor has differing reviews about this B&B, some saying that the hosts are "wonderful" and others saying that they were unfriendly and not helpful at all.
Anyone with experience with Ghiberti, or with making the reservations yourself from the States?

Haven't had experience with the B&B but have with making reservations for the museums.
I phoned last week for reservations for the end of September for 4 of the Florence museums. I prefer to phone myself in spite of it taking an hour so that I can choose the times--I like 14:00 or so. The system now is automated until it is time to actually make the reservations; this makes it take longer, especially with the maximum 5 minute "hold" and then disconnect but it's worth it to me. In 2005 it was as automated and was easier and much faster but I guess that's progress!
