My husband and I .....with 3 teens are headed to Florence for NYE. Will have 3-4 nights in the area. Looking at Airbnb. ANy particular location/area one would recommend to stay?

Anyplace within the historical center is good.
The historical center of Florence is the area highlighted here. Sector A is the core. That sector is in the middle of very thing, but more crowded with tourists and more expensive. If you like quieter, then consider the Oltrarno, which is the sector B on the south bank of the river. Very quaint and trendy, yet not as overrun by tourists.
The entire city of Florence is much bigger than that, but if the apartment you find on AirBnB is outside any of the highlighted areas in the map linked above, I wouldn't consider it, because it would not be within walking distance of most sights, which are located mostly in sector A of the above map, but also in the sectors B, surrounding it.
When you find an apartment you like, post the exact address and I will give you my opinion on the exact location. I know Florence better than the city where I live now, in spite of having lived here for almost 15 years. I don't think there is a street in Florence that I don't know. My father, a Florence city transit supervisor, forced me to learn all streets and all bus lines in Florence. That would be considered transit child abuse nowadays.
