Florence for First Time Europe Traveler

Would Florence alone be a good choice for a first time Europe traveler? Also what would be a good amount of time to spend there? Thank you!

Sure, Why not?
Many people would agree that a very minimum of 3 or even 4 nights are necessary to see the most basic sights in Florence itself. If one wants to dive deeper into the city or maybe take some day trips to the nearby Tuscan towns, then more days are necessary, at least one additional night for every day trip one wants to take.

I think it is a great city. Florence is a relatively small, largely walkable, manageable city with a lot to see and do and some real global "must see" things like David and many artworks in the Uffizi. It is a good transit hub to the areas around it and the train station is easily accessible if extremely busy.

What else could you want?

I agree that 3 or 4 days will allow you to check off most of the major sites without rushing too much. Add time for a day trip to Siena to get a glimpse of rural Tuscany. Book major sites ahead in everything but the very, very off season once you have your dates set.

Have a great trip whatever you decide.

Absolutely it can be a great choice not just for the multitude of treasures it has to offer but as a base for any number of easy day trips: Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Fiesole, etc. How long to spend? Depends on your level of interest in what's on offer, which is heavy on Renaissance art and Medieval/Renaissance architecture. Personally, I could easily spend a month or more there + day trips but I've seen other travelers with different interests say they were done in a day (they skipped a lot.)
