Florence for 2 days or Florence for 1 and Siena for 1

We are going to Italy for an 8 day trip. We have either 2 days for Florence or 1 for Florence and 1 for Siena. We've got advance reservations for Accademia and Uffizi for that Saturday (but our train from Venice doesn't even get in til 11:30 a.m.)

Should we make the most of that Saturday from noon on and then head to Siena on Sunday OR stay put in Florence that Sunday also? We leave on Monday for Rome.

I've read all the recent posts about Florence in a day, so, my main question centers on the "pull" of Siena?

Because of the arrival time in Florence of your train, by the time you get to your hotel, check in, stow your luggage, and hit the street, it only gives you half a day of daylight sight-seeing hours in Florence on Saturday--not a full day. If you decide to go to Siena on Sunday, that means you basically will have only half a day in Florence, way less time than 95% of travelers on this forum. Unfortunately, you can't do it all. Sometimes less is more.

If I had only one day in Florence (and you don't even have one day) I would not spend all my time indoors. Just my opinion.

Kent is right, you can't do it all in the amount of time that you have. Pick one city and enjoy it instead of dashing from city to city and not seeing any of them.

I don't want to claim Siena and Florence are the same, but since you asked about the "pull of Siena" in my opinion the quality of the experience is the same. Medium-sized tourist city with art and duomos and medieval history and a lively tourist trade. Just pick one city.
