Hubby and I will be in Italy in mid April. Itinerary is set for Rome, Cinque Terre, and Florence. We know of what one aught to see in Florence but what are the must sees? We will be arriving in Florence via train mid day on a Sunday, be in Florence all day Monday (well aware that many things are closed that day), and flying home on Tuesday. We are very fit, walk everywhere, not worried about being up and going early in the morning, and be on the go all day. I was thinking of doing the RS walking tour around Florence in the afternoon we arrive. On Monday, we are planning on seeing the Duomo Museum and hiking up at least one of the towers. But since time is short, would one go up the tower and then spend more time in the city or go up the tower and the dome but have less time in the city doing other things? Since I'm sure it will be brought up, I'll add that we do not plan on going to the Uffizi Museum.
Elizabeth, there is no such thing as a must-see for everyone. We spent nearly 5 days in Florence and couldn't cover everything we wanted to see so there will be a trip #2 (or #3 or #4...) The Uffizi was HIGH on my personal list, and we had no interest in climbing the duomo dome or bell tower so see? If one visitor's gotta-dos differ from yours then it's difficult to advise. Use the list from the link above to make your own plan. Be aware as well that not every attraction is open every day of the week.
