Florence (FLR) airport question

In June 2025, our group of 4 adults and 2 kids will be flying out of the Florence (FLR) airport to Rome (FCO) with a layover before our flight back to the US. The flight departs Florence at 6:30am and we are staying in central Florence. Please share your feedback on what time we should arrive at the Florence airport. Thanks in advance!

The airport opens at 5 am
The check in desks will slowly open after that time so getting there at 5 is fine
It’s about a 20 min taxi ride from Florence center

What time is the flight out of FCO?

Could you train to Rome and stay there the final night before return trip and fly from FCO, saving an extra flight (and any baggage concerns the extra flight might present) and not be at the airport so early?

Not directly on point, but important is, is this all on one ticket?

I sort of assumed it’s all one ticket because OP says “layover” not “connecting flight”

But if I’m wrong I’d definitely train to Rome the night before

Tess-let us know just what your flights are. How long is your layover?
Is this all one ticket? If so your luggage should be checked thru to US and the airlines should have built in enough time for you.
The airlines is responsible for getting you on next available flight should you miss the connection but that next flight likely not til next day!

You will have to exit Schengen in Rome so you’ll need enough time there to do that

Sorry probably way more than you asked for, don’t mean to worry you!

Sorry for the confusion. Our flight is all on one ticket with the layover in Rome. We will plan to arrive at 5:00am as suggested. Thanks to all!
