what is the best way to book tickets to the uffizzi and academia? thanks.
I contacted my hotel and they handled it for me. Once we checked in, they gave me the reservation info. Some one will shortly post a number to call or a website to visit.
My hotel is going to book it for me too. There is another thread about this subject if you scroll down just a bit
My hotel offered to book the tickets for us.

This has all the main sites listed for tickets in Florence, Venice and Rome
We booked self-catering accommodation and had nobody to phone in for us to make reservations. So I did it myself. Very easy! They have English speaking operators and the whole procedure takes barely 2 minutes. No need to pay in advance either. Just keep in mind the time difference as you need to call during Italian business hours.

Like others, we booked our tickets through our host at our B&B: http://www.bellevuehouse.it/inglese/bed_and_breakfast_florence_center.asp
The official site to book on is this one: http://www.b-ticket.com/b-ticket/uffizi/default.aspx
There are also other commercial sites, that offer a mix of tickets and tours, etc. like Viator
And as mentioned, it seems most hotels will make the reservation for you. Not sure what they add to the ticket. The price at the door is euro 6.50 - usually a reservation cost aroun 4 euro more.
There is news out yesterday that the city is going to start offering a 3 day discount card in September that gives you about 65% of all museums and free public transportation for 50 euro. This could be a good way to go in the future if you plane to hit several museums. It also allows you to jump the que at the Uffizi and Accademia, and you won't need a reservation!
We were there in October and, since I don't normally travel by reservation, called and reserved our times about 48 hours ahead of time - when we were sure we'd be in the area. Even in October, it was a good idea to have a reservation as there was a long line and the place was pretty crowded. I'm not sure 48 hours is enough advance notice in the summer.
Call the number on the b-ticket web site and make your reservations that way. They have more times available than online and you don't pay until you pick up your tickets. This way if plans change or there are shorter lines when you get there, you aren't out any money ahead of time.
Search this website for "Friends of Uffizi". It explains how a family of up to 4 persons can get a pass for 10+ museums for 100 euros, or 60 euros for a single person. No waiting, no lines, enter as often as you like.
do it online from home. super easy. directions in rick's book, or google it. make sure you get them in advance and avoid the long lines, especially at the uffizzi. have fun be safe.
Go to the official website (type in official website uffizi and search) forget but it is something like poleomuseum.it. Call the number for reservations and pay when you get there. Way easier than buying on line
Just don't do them on the same day, unless you REALLY like art museums. We did the Accademia first and I was museumed out by the Uffizzi.
I called the number in Rick's tour book before a couple of weeks before I left for Italy. I got reservations for both with the same call. They will give you a reservation number that you take to the reserve ticket window. This was you don't have to pay anything up front. Even though I got cut off once my total cost for the call was less than $3. At the Uffizzi it may look like there is a long line to pick up reserved tickets, but it doesn't matter. At 10 min. before your time you can just go to the front of the line.
Called there last summer a few weeks before our trip and made reservations for both the Accademia and Uffizi as people were having trouble booking online. Was very easy to do and didn't take long. Just remember the time difference when calling.
