Hi, I'm headed to Florence in about 2 weeks and have been reading Rick's 2013 Florence & Tuscany book. I've read various s about admission fees and ways to cut the line at the Duomo since the book was published, but have some questions I hope anyone may able to help answer :) 1) I know the Firenze card has gone up in price to 72 Euro and now includes admission to various parts of the Duomo, including the Dome. Does having the Firenze still allow you to cut the line to enter the church, as well as the Dome? 2) I went the official Duomo site (http://www.operaduomo.firenze.it) and noticed that they have a new admission option you can purchase online. 10 Euro includes admission to the following: Galleria dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore Brunelleschi's Dome Giotto's Bell Tower Baptistery of San Giovanni Crypt of Santa Reparata Same question here, does purchasing this 10 Euro ticket allow you to cut the line to enter the church and the Dome? Also, does the offering of this 10 Euro ticket mean that the 2 options explained in Rick's book (15 Euro Combo Ticket and 15 Euro Terraces of the Cathedral and Dome) are no longer available? Thanks for any information! Rich
Some clarifications: The Galleria dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore is the excellent museum housing most of the artistic treasures of the Duomo - they aren't in the church itself. The museum is in a separate building behind the Duomo. I believe the Museum is currently undergoing extensive renovations and only a few of the most famous pieces are on display (possibly not in the building under construction). There is no fee to enter the Duomo - that is, the church. It does look like this is a new ticket, replacing all the others.
I have to laugh when I read about the tickets that include line cutting because whenever I've attempted to use such tickets at various destinatinos it seems that everybody else in the line has those same tickets.
At least as of last month, the card worked for admission to the Duomo sites, but it did not let you skip the lines. We bought the cards at the TI near the train station and the woman there sort of rolled her eyes when I mentioned the Duomo. She implied the tourist bureau was trying to convince them to do the line skipping, so this might improve.
Thanks for everyone's feedback. So based on the posts, I guess it looks like for the Duomo, there are 2 ways to pre-purchase your tickets to see the admission charged areas: 1) Purchase the Fiernze card 2) Purchase the combo 10 Euro ticket online for: Galleria dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore Brunelleschi's Dome Giotto's Bell Tower Baptistery of San Giovanni
Crypt of Santa Reparata And it also sounds like there's really no strategy to bypass the long lines anymore.
We were on a RS tour in early June. The Terraces of the Cathedral and Dome ticket was no longer being sold.
