Florence: Duomo / Baptistery and Medici Chapels

Hello and thank you in advance for your suggestions : Will be in Florence Friday September 13, I have a 9am ticket for Galleria Academia and that really is to see "David" .
I have read so much and I am getting myself confused. I wish to go to the Duomo to see inside of the cathedral (do not wish to climb the stairs) What is best way to do this...sites states cathedral is free but then I assume I'll be in a lineup that never ends. I've looked at tour sites; wonder if anyone has any recommendations on how to just view the inside. One site I saw was to purchase the Brunelleschi Pass? If I understand it I purchase it to see the other sites and the Cathedral is free entry but then is there that long lineup again?
Also has anyone been recently as I understand that the Baptistery is being renovated so wonder if there is anything to see at this time? Any suggestions on how best to see the medici chapels
Just wish there was a way to pre purchase tickets without time slots ... oh well I realize the crowds will not allow!
Thank you again,Monika

There was no line for the cathedral and honestly, the interior is not that interesting. I recall walking right in. What was really interesting and had a bit of a line was the baptistry. There was some renovation going on at the baptistry, but it didn't impact us much. We were there in 2019. We also visited the Duomo museum and felt it worthwhile to see some of the original sculptures.

We didn't spend a lot of time at the Academia, but there were other things to see. My husband enjoyed a musical instruments exhibit and I found the hall of prisoners interesting.

We had a Firenze pass (and it could likely be different, now) and got to the Medici Chapel right at opening. I thought the chapel was pretty spectacular.

We were in Firenze about a week ago and climbed to the top of the Duomo. I know you said you did not want to climb the stairs but if you are physically able to do it, I would highly recommend it for the spectacular views of the city. We went inside the duomo after we climbed to the top and honestly it was a little underwhelming. I hate to say that but we had been inside Milano Duomo, Santa Maria della Grazie, and LA Sagrada Familia so compared to them it was not as ornately detailed. There was a very short line to get into the duomo but we waited less than 5 minutes to get in. If admission to the cathedral is free it still would be worth checking out. If you don't go to the top ot the duomo then Piazzle Michaelangelo also offers spectacular views of the city although it is a far walk (about 1/2 hour from duomo) so taking a taxi would be better.

One of the best views over Florence is from the top of Giardino Bardini.
