Florence -- Duomo

I know that we need to wear "knee coverings" when we tour the inside of the Duomo. But on a separate day, we will be climbing the Duomo. Is a dress code required for this also?

Thanks! We will probably ask our hotel and be prepared to wear what's appropriate.

By entering through the side entrance, you will not be inside the church. No one checks & shorts are abundant.

Actually, the entrance is on the side, outside of the main church area, and you start up the stairs immediately. You do reach a point where you are overlooking the church interior but you are separated from it by glass. But that doesn't answer the question. When we did it last summer, I wore capris and a lightweight blouse with sleeves to my elbow, just in case. I assumed, without asking, that modest dress code applies there too. I do not remember seeing any women dressed in shorts, etc., but we were there in the morning when there were few other people. And I was looking at the amazing structure, not other people.
