We are visiting our daughter who is studying in Florence this semester. We have rented 2 cars since we will be a party of 7 to travel to Odina, Loro Ciuffenna for the 1st 3 nights of our trip.I am just concerned about our exit strategy out of Florence to reach our destination as we will be picking up our car @ 5pm Thursday evening. Also want to avoid ZTL...
The car rental agency will provide specific instructions on how to bypass the ZTL based on your destination. IIRC, most of the rental agencies are on the edge of the ZTL.
Thank you!
At present there are no problems just exiting ZTL, as only entrances are electronically monitored. The municipality is planning to monitor also exits, but at present this is just a plan.
Exiting ZTL, your main concern is not occupying a lane reserved to buses, that are also monitored and may be also out of ZTL area.
If you pick up your rental at the SMN station, the cars are stored in the garage under the Piazza.
Save the direction below to the letter.
Google will give you two choices, take whichever is faster at the time of your travel.
If you pick up at 5:30pm on a Thursday, the heaviest commute traffic, you will probably regret that choice, but nevertheless this is the way. Either option you will be ok.

If you rent from Hertz, their garage is on via Alamanni, between viale Rosselli and via Jacopo da Diacceto, so I will need different directions if you rent from Hertz. Come back with the exact details of your rental including car rental company.
You must like to stay in the boonies. I’ve been to Loro Ciuffenna a few times, which already is pretty secluded, but you really took it to the extreme with this agriturismo. Watch out driving at night on those narrow curvy country roads. Don’t drink and drive.
