When we spent 8 days in Tuscany, we stayed at Castello di Verrazzano. They are on a hilltop just north of Greve. They have a food and wine tasting at lunch that is to die for. You take a tour of the winery, then they serve you lunch. The tour takes about an hour. Plan on at least 1 1/2 hours for lunch. Since we were staying there, we had blocked out the entire afternoon. We sat down at 1:00 and finished up at 3:30, a true relaxing Italian meal.
They are generous with both their food and wine. Therefore, I suggest taking public transportation. Buses run about every hour from Florence to Greve and the trip takes about an hour.
The winery is gorgeous. Parts of the castle date back to the 12th Century and there has been a settlement there since the Etruscan age.
