Florence day trip

Would you suggest doing both San Gimignano and Siena in one day from Florence? I'm understand that the bus is faster then the train from Florence to Siena. Would we go to Siena first then San Gimignano? Would be back track to get back to Florence?

By car definitely. By bus or train might be challenging but doable. Just very few hours in each. Which one you do first is up to you.

Both deserve a full day if time allows. If time is too tight, I suggest Siena.
