My wife and I will be arriving by RC cruise ship in port of Livorno on October 8, 2009 and are looking for itinerary suggestions. We would like to see Uffizi Gallery(quick look at paintings) and Accademia(Michelangelo's David) then take a nice ride through Tuscany countryside with time to stop and take pictures. Any one know of a good tour guide to accomplish this? Any helpful info on train from Livorno to Florence? Also, we have to be back to cruise ship by 7:00pm. Thanks for any help. Don
Don, We have done this trip. Out side the ship they have a van that takes you to the bus station (Plaza Grande) I think it was $2.00. At Plazza Grande you will buy a ticket for bus No.1, that will take you to the railway station. From here you can go to both Pisa and Florence. We we be doing the same trip again in Sept only from the train station we will get off in Pisa and then head to Lucca since we have been to Florence. Hope this helps, sounds like we're neighbors!
CLICK HERE to see a typical morning train schedule from Livorno to Florence. Getting through other parts of Tuscany could be a challenge given that it usually takes 2hrs to do the Uffizi. You can do it faster but you won't see as much.
Thanks Jo and Larry. Yes Jo we are neighbors. Hendersonville is beautiful. Been there many times.
From the train schedule, it appears that my wife and I will arrive in Florence at about 10:30am and need to be back to the train station by around 4:15pm to head back to Livorno. That gives us about 5 to 6 hours in Florence. Maybe we should just do the Accademia museum, skip Uffizi, and then try to tour the outskirts. Has anyone ever hired a cab or limo to tour the countryside outside Florence? I am imagining nice Tuscan scenery with lots of vineyards. Great photo shots. Does this seem accurate? It's our first time to Europe. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.
