Have searched but much of the info in the topic site is 10plus years old. It may be still relevant, but I'll ask....
I have a car rental for September with Auto Europe on Saturday. pickup will be near the rail station. As I near my departure I;m getting a bit anxious about the ZTL fees. Has anyone been recently and how easy is it to manoeuvre in and out of town. Will I require a permit or do the car rentals provide. Would love any insight. I've read the having a GPS is not any help and the allowed ZTL zones won't show up. Also when I look on various maps that show up in info sites with the flags it makes it all the more confusing; and can't make out the street names for the routes to take/not take. HELP ! :)
Thank you all for your help in advance.
Monika

Hopefully you are picking up the car as you leave Florence and not planning to drive in and out of the city ( if you are you can ask your hotel to register your car/license plate but that will be limited)
You don’t need or want a car while in Florence
Make sure all drivers have an International Driving Permit ( along with your regular license)
You can get your IDP at your local AAA for about $25- it is required by law and car rental agency will ask for it
