would love your insights on your itineraries...i would like to do florence for maybe a couple days and then head over to the cinque terre for a few...or it could be the other way around...very flexible and open...any info on where you stayed, train tips, where you flew into and out of...etc etc...as always thanks for your time...
matthew,
Your question is a bit vague. It would help to have some additional information.
For example, where will you be prior to this leg of your travels, how are you getting around, what type of budget are you working with for Hotels, etc.
It's difficult to provide much in the way of "insights" without some additional details.
Cheers!
It is a pretty easy trip and you could go in either direction. Which one you do first I guess depends on where you are coming from. When I was there I flew into Milan and went to CT from there. I then made my way to Florence but spent a couple of nights in Siena before going to Florence. I stayed at Manuel's Guesthouse in Monterosso and loved it, but the place is not for everyone. It is up a bunch of stairs and all should expect is a warm welcome and a clean room. But the view from the terrace is well worth the climb up the stairs.
yes a bit vague because i am hoping for a number of various responses like scott's...like i flew into genoa and took the train to ct and flew back to the states from florence and we found this place to stay and did this inbetween...
If focusing just on Florence and Cinque Terre, Pisa would be the most convenient airport if you can get a good airfare. Train times will be relatively short from Pisa. Otherwise, Rome or Milan would be equally convenient. In Florence, I like Il Bargellino which is in a quiet neighborhood near the train station. It has a great terrace and wonderful owners. In Cinque Terre, I prefer staying in Vernazza. It can get crowded during the day, but is relaxing in the evening. Of the places I've stayed, I liked Memo Rooms the best (must call to reserve, no e-mail).
