Florence, Cinque Terra, Venice

Looking for a little advice. We fly into Florence and are wanting to travel by train to Cinque Terra and Venice. We are staying 6 days in Florence, 3 in Cinque Terra, and 3 in Venice. Based on peoples experience, is it easier to do 6 in Florence 3 in Cinque Terra, then 3 in Venice, or 3 in Cinque Terra, 6 in Florence, and 3 in Venice. We need to finish in Venice as we are catching a cruise.

Shaun, My suggestion would be to start in Florence, as you're going to be tired and jet lagged when you arrive. That will give you a few days to get up to "touring speed" before you venture to the other places. How to portion your time will depend to some extent on what you want to see and do in each of the places you'll be visiting. You'll need to allow some time for travel, which will be longest from Cinque Terre to Venice (about 5-6 hours, basically a full day). Which of the five C.T. towns will you be staying in? A couple of questions - have you travelled in Italy before, and are you familiar with riding the trains there? Happy travels!

Hi,
I agree with the earlier post about needing some time to adjust before moving on, but I didn't really feel relaxed in Florence. However, if you are flying IN to Florence it makes sense to stay there first rather than hopping on a train right away. We really like the more "old country" feel in Cinque Terra and Venice. And they both have much more visual appeal, imho. Florence has a much more urban feel, less personal. Are you locked in to the 6 - 3 - 3 arrangement? If not, you might consider adjusting it to give more time in Cinque Terra and Venice. But of course it totally depends on what experience you're looking for. Either way... ENJOY!
