Florence- Cinque Terra- Rome- Athens

Hi-
thinking of training from Florence in the morning to Cinque Terra- spending the day.. staying over in Vernazza and then leaving the next day for Rome to catch a flight to Athens. Does this seem doable or nuts?

I went on Trenitalia website and think for the Vernazza/Rome part I have to go from Vernazza to La Spezia Centrale , and change train but Im a bit confused on which is the right train to take-

There is one that is 4 hrs. 35 min but it is an INTERCITY. is it better to take a FRECCI?
Also- how reliable and on time are the trains?

Im concerned because I will try to get a flight from Rome to Athens and will have to get from the train station in Rome to the airport and not sure how long that takes. Do you think This is all reasonable or anould it be split up bupynstaying in Rome overnite and flying out the next morning to Athens.

And next issue: Upon arriving in Athens do you suggest staying overnite and leaving for Naxos
the next dxy and would you reccommend a ferry to get to Naxos?

thx alot!!!

People say you only need one day in Cinque Terra but if coming from Florence and leaving c5the next day is this too rushed to get any benefit? Would reccommend leaving Flornce mid day arriving in c5 vernazza - dinner, stay over hike the next day - stay a second night and leave early the next morning for Rome/ athens flite

If you are not crack of dawn people, spend the two nights in Cinque Terre - that part of Italy is perfect for a little R&R.

I would take whichever train to Rome will get me there faster. Getting to the airport from Roma Termini takes about 35 minutes on the Leonardo Express, leaves every half hour from track #24 (buy ticket and validate it in the machine near the tracks). I would not cut the connection from Termini to the airport too close - maybe spend the night in Rome and leave the next morning.

You may be able to get a hydrofoil to Naxos instead of taking the ferry (not sure about that). I would prefer to get to Naxos rather than spend the night in Athens. Naxos is big, it can take more time than you think to get to (and back from) the various points you probably will want to see.

to complicate things.. my daughter will be coming from Venice and we will be coming from Rome. We wanted to meet somewhere and then go to Cinqueterra before getting back to Rome to fly to Athens.
What makes the most sense- for daughter and us to meet in Florence, spend a few days there and THEN do Cinqueterra and train to Rome OR: Is it better for us to meet in Cinque terra ( her to train Venice/Cinque Terra and for us to train Rome/Cinqueterra) and then head to Florence before going to Rome/Athens?

Basically-- Is Cinque Terra best as a day side trip from Florence?

Makes my head spin!!! Thx a lot!!

Nope. If you can't stay at least one overnight, pass this time.

The DB or Trenitalia web sites will both give you connection schedules all the way to Roma Fiumincino Airport. Easiest departures take about 5.5 hours and 2 connections, such as 5:00 - 10:52 (crack of dawn), 9:28 - 14:33, or 12:46 - 17:22. What time was the flight that you found? Do allow for delays and don't cut the connections too close!
