Florence Buses

Our hotel is across from San Lorenzo. Does anyone know what bus to take to the Campo Di Marte train station. We are going to Verona and the only fast train there, (that I can find) is out of this station. There is one from SMN in the morning but it is a 3.5 hour train ride as opposed to 1.40. OR Should I just take a taxi.
Help is appreciated.

The Florence bus website www.ataf.net has a Travel Planner feature that will help you plan the bus trip to Campo di Marte station. Looks like bus #10 or #20 from Piazza San Marco will be your best option to get there. Bus number for the return trip might be different, so be sure to check both directions.

Shelly, what a nice run out of Campo Di Marte. That's easily the fastest run from Florence to Vernona. The best runs from Firenze SMN are 1hr55min. The difference is 25 minutes. I'm betting that you would most likely use up the 25 minutes and some extra expense getting to Campo Di Marte.

Thanks Larry for the information, however what site were you looking at for the train schedule?

Shelley, I'd suggest using the Trenitalia website for researching rail trips in Italy. The quickest trips do seem to be from Firenze Campo di Marte to Verona Porta Nuova, about 1H:30M. There are several methods you could use to get to Campo di Marte: > Take a Regionale train from Firenze SMN (5 minutes and €1.50 - DON'T forget to validate!) > Take a Taxi > Take a Bus (I'd have to check on the routes) > Take a Tram (I believe the station is on a Tram line, but again I'd have to check) Happy travels!

Hi Ken Thanks once again for your help. I'll look into the bus but probably take a taxi just to make sure I get there on time.
Where are you headed to next??

Shelley, Where am I headed to next - good question. I just got back from a month in Europe, so I'll have to ponder that a bit (and pay some bills from this year's trip). Italy will definitely be on the list, but at this point I'm not sure where else. I'll know more after the big tour event in Seattle in January. Cheers!

The tramway doesnt go to CM. If there are a couple of people traveling together, especially if with luggage, you could invest in a taxi ride. It wont cost more than 12 euro.

Shelley, I don't think that you are looking in the right place if that is the only train you can find. What date, what time would you like to leave or arrive? If you look at both train companies you can find a very frequent schedule from F.SMN to Verona PN. That's Verona Porta Nove to you and me. For most you will have to change trains in Padova but that is easy - much easier than going to the very small station of CM. At CM there is only a small booking office, half a dozen platforms - most carrying trains in and out of SMN and not stopping, and a small tabac. Across the street there is a small cafe, and there is a very small bar on the station near what are advertised as "toilets". If you stay with the plan to go from CM, there are frequent Regionale trains from SMN to CM which take about 5 minutes.

Hi Nigel We are not travelling until May next year. Obviously I like to plan and book early. I will check upon arrival at SMN in Florence what the best and fastest train to take out of there. Just like to have my head in gear in advance. Thanks for your information.

You will save money if you buy your tickets online when they become available, either 90 or 120 days out for the Freccias and the .Italos. If you do that you can get extremely cheap tickets which include your reserved seats, but you must act quickly once they are released for sale or you may miss them as they get snapped up quickly and never go down in price, only up. If you do get those advance cheap you MUST be able to commit to them because, like cheap airline tickets, if you miss them or change your mind they are only good for bookmarks. You print out the codes at home.
