Florence Bus-Tram Ticket Prices to Increase

It's official. Florence bus and tram ticket prices will increase from 1.20 euro to 1.50 euro on July 1, 2018. The previous price increase was several years ago (maybe 2011 or 2012).

I haven't seen anything indicating whether the standard ticket price will apply to the new tram between the airport and the SMN train station area. Hopefully that will be the case, as the distance is about the same as the terminus of the other 2 tram lines where the standard ticket price applies to all stops along the lines. A recent announcement by the mayor says testing of the new tram lines will begin in February and that they will be fully operational by June.

Since the historical center is small and almost everything is within a short walking distance, that will not impact tourists much.
However, there is another measure that will impact tourists more.
Since the higher bus fares will not be sufficient to cover the €14 million necessary to upgrade the bus and tramway system, the Mayor just announced that the hotel tourist tax will be increased as well (0.50€ more a day, except for 5 star hotels which are already at the 5€/day limit imposed by State law).

More, UNESCO said that a tramway tunnel under the historic center would be too close and too dangerous for the oldest buildings.

They also said that the proposed tunnel would make going to the center too easy for tourists, hence it would increase the Disneyfication of the Unesco area.

It's the aging population, airB&B and the lack of alternatives to cars inside the ZTL that's changing central Florence into a theme park. The second point makes no sense. The tunnel would have been a partial solution.
