Has anyone taken this tour recently or at all? We were all set to buy tickets for a Saturday next month, but now I am wondering how much time you get to spend up on the scaffolding and how much of the mosaics you are able to see up close.
I am always leery of guided tours because almost every time I go on one, they either go way too fast or way too slow, and seem to spend half of the time doing a big long introduction before you even get to look at anything. The only description of this tour I can find online said that they spent time on the floor of the Baptistery getting a tour of that (which I've already done twice) and showing pictures of the mosaics before you actually climb up on the scaffolding. Then it said only a "strip" of the mosaics could be seen. It did say that you could see people working on the mosaics, but, really? On a Saturday?
Any details will be helpful! I am still inclined to spend the 65 euro on each ticket, but if I am going to be bummed, I would like to be bummed now and not during the tour. I hope I don't sound like a spoiled brat who wants everything customized to their particular desires --- I know that such tours have to be geared towards general interests. It was me who, probably unreasonably, assumed we'd have the full hour up with the mosaics.
Here is the youtube video that made us want to do this tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKmIA2iiDzM
And here is the official ticketing: https://tickets.duomo.firenze.it/en/store#/en/buy?skugroup_id=1426
The scaffolding will be up for at least five more years.
