Although I haven’t checked every link on this forum, I think I have been unable to find what I’m looking for. Are there any old-fashioned B&Bs in Florence and Venice for single or twin travelers, who want to stay in an old fashioned B&B? Not a hotel, not a hostel, but one of the B&Bs that used to be around 40 years ago. If you have any suggestions for that type of accommodation, can you please let me know? Thanking you in advance, I remain, a traveler.
Perhaps this article defining Italian accommodations might help?

To me, a B&B is a private home offering a spare room and breakfast. Article calls these 'affitecamere' and says are in smaller less touristy places.
If you mean a family run 2 star 'pension' type place, check 'pensione' when googling.
What about considerung a monastary or convent stay? There are several in both cities. Check the website 'monastarystays'
Check out the small hotel in Florence on the Arno. It's the hotel Balesteri.
Maria's description is what I always considered a "B&B" meant, usually an inexpensive place to stay. However, it seems to have morphed in American to mean any place that provides breakfast with your stay - from a boutique, luxury experience to a regular hotel with a buffet. It wasn't typical for American hotels to include breakfast that long ago, so the term was new to US.
