Help....i don't know where to start planning our visit because there is so much to see. What are your top 5 must sees from these wonderful cities?
Also, in Venice, please share tips for visiting the other islands in the area.

Michelle, I suggest you buy a copy of the Rick Steves Italy guidebook and start browsing through it. See what appeals to YOU! You might also watch some of Rick's PBS TV shows about Italy - they are free to watch on YouTube.

At https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/italy, click on any of the major cities and then "At a Glance" to see a prioritized list of indoor sightseeing, same as in Rick's books. I'd say that "everyone" should see all the 3-star sights. Then you probably won't have time for all the 2-stars, so have to pick based on personal interest. Also on those city pages, under "Watch, Read, Listen," you'll find self-guided walking tour itineraries, again based on book content.
