We are staying in Florence and Tuscany. One of us cannot climb stairs. Can anyone advise on places to visit, especially Tuscany, for a person with this disability. Can't tell if Tuscany is totally steep hills which would make it an unwise choice for me.
Florence is, relatively, flat. Of course, there are stairs, but many of these can be avoided. There are hills on the south side of the Arno River, and to the north of Florence.
Many travelers go to Tuscany to see the "Tuscany hill towns." The hill towns are, uhm, hilly.
I'm glad to see that Anthony (a Florence resident) has added an important caution to my post. His caution is especially important, because N. American travelers with a mobility impairment, who did not know what Anthony has mentioned, could be blind-sided by this because they might not be used to thinking of the difficulties that can be presented by uneven pavement, etc, even on relatively flat terrain such as the center of Florence.
I have to add that Florence, the center, although flat, is not an easy place to walk. Many of the streets and sidewalks are extremely uneven, sidewalks can be very small, etc. I have witnessed countless spills, especially by elderly tourists, off the low and uneven sidewalks of Florence -
