We will be visiting Florence Nov. 10 -20, with a weekend trip to Rome. We are wondering what to pack for comfortable attire. Thanks!
You'll be outdoors more than you expect. A light pair of gloves, excellent and comfortable shoes. You can always buy an umbrella if needed from the vendors that crawl out of nowhere when it rains.
November may have some annoying rain. Pack a small pocket umbrella. A light sweater and a jacket will likely be needed as well. Temperatures in Florence will be cold in the evenings, but generally not freezing cold (in the low 40s F, or about 5 C). Daily temperatures will be likely in the 50's F (10-15 C). It is a good idea to check the 10 day forecast just before you leave. www.underground.com is a reliable source.
I don't usually pack an umbrella, I buy one from the vendors Laurel mentioned for a few euro and throw it away or leave it at my hotel when I leave the country.
As a tourist, I find a rain poncho to be better than an umbrella. It folds up nicely so it isn't bulky in my backpack. It keeps me drier, especially when there's any wind, it covers my backpack as well as me, and both my hands are free.
Forgot to mention the poncho, mine is not stylish but it keeps everything dry. I'll buy an umbrella if I don't have the poncho with me.
There's a good App for that,
IL Meteo, free; IL Meteo Plus, $3.99.
Thank you to all for your great tips!
