Florence and Rome at Christmas

Hi -My daughter (16) and I are meeting my traveling daughter (20) in Florence for Christmas. We are flying into Florence on the 19th and flying home from Rome on the 30th. I don't respond well to the flight over, so will be spending most of the time in Florence and going to Rome for 2 days at the end. I need advice about buying shoes and purses, and inexpensive yummy food. Also, how long is the train trip from Florence to Rome? I've never been to Italy before!

And I need a restaurant recommendation, or two, near the Duomo for Christmas Eve and/or Christmas dinner.

restraunts: Mario's and Za-Za's are in the central market area, maybe a 10 minute walk from the dumo. They are reasonably priced, but so yummy that you really won't care how much it cost. When you make your hotel reservation ask the hotel to reserve the restraunt for you. Plan on eating for 2+ hours. There is nice shopping in the central market. But if you're looking for the Valentino or Tiffany's or Feragamo you will want to check out tornabuoni street. It is the first driving bridge downriver from ponte vecchio.
It is about 2 or 2 1/2 hours from florence to rome.
Happy travels!

We had Christmas Eve dinner at Trattoria Gobbi 13 in Firenze last December. Wonderful! Opens at 7 PM, and will take a reservation. Ask your hotel to make it for you.
