Florence and Pisa in 11.5 hrs??

Help. We will be arriving in Livourno on the 19th of October via cruise ship at 6:30am. My hubby and I really want to take in all we can but I am not sure if it can be done. I was thinking of taking the train to Florence, pre-ordering tickets for the Accedemia (David) and Ufizzi Gallery, finding some sort of walking tour and hitting Pisa on the way back to at least get a photo, and make it back to the ship before 6pm. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know we will not be able to savor everything the same as if we had a couple days there but I really don't want to miss any of the must see's because I don't know when or if we will ever be back. Any suggestion anyone has are appreciated. The cruise line offers excursions but the don't cover more than 1 of the things I listed.

  1. scroll down and look at "one day - Florence or Pisa & Lucca"

  2. It's a Sunday, there are fewer trains, and museum tickets may be hard to get. There is one phone number for most of the museums in Florence and you can reserve all the tickets at once. There's a 3 euro fee per ticket for the reservation, BUT you only pay if/when you pick up the tickets. (if you make on-line reservations, the fee is 4 euro per ticket). The website is http://www.uffizi.firenze.it/english/

Spend your time in Florence as there is nothing to see in Pisa except the tower. It's not worth spending the time going to pisa just to see the tower when there is so much to see in Florence.
