Florence and Jubilee

Greetings,

I was planning a solo trip to Florence in 2025 in the last week of May. My primary interests are museums, galleries, and historical sites and possible day trips to Pisa and Siena. I am seeing a lot of reports that the Jubilee will make things too crowded and that postponing a year might be best. I will be moving on foot and public transportation vs. auto, if this makes a difference.

Is this the case? Should I wait until 2026, or will the impact in Tuscany not be as bad? Or can shifting the trip to April make a difference? Also, for someone who is an inveterate people watcher, will the variety of visitors be a bonus if I am willing to be patient?

If I do go, I will be sure to get everything reserved and otherwise pre-arranged to be sure.

Any and all insights are greatly appreciated!

I would go. I know a number of people who planned for a trip, but never took it because of financial or health issues. Or more common, they put off a trip until they retired and found it was just too overwhelming to go. If you can go next year, I would go. You never know what the future has in store you. Experience life while you can.

I agree with Yosemite1, I would go, health and family are usually the reasons we've had to put off trips. If you can travel in April, ending your trip before Good Friday which falls on April 18th 2025, you may escape the worst of the crowds.

I would take a quick look at Monastery Stays to see about availability and pricing, (even if that's not where you want to stay) it will give you an idea of demand among pilgrims, and as you see prices shoot up, you would have a better idea of which weeks to avoid! https://www.monasterystays.com/. I hope you have a fantastic trip.

As Florence is overcrowded even at this time of the year, it will be more in May, and I suspect even more in April (Easter and civil festivities), I cannot imagine how the Jubilee can make it worse. The only time of the year the city is not overcrowded is January - and I suspect that even that time will be crowded too.

Thank you for the insights so far. Just one quick clarification, I am not choosing between Florence and staying home, but between Florence in 2025 or somewhere else (and Florence later).

Thanks again!

Well in that case, why not go elsewhere & visit Italy in 2026?! Florence has such a small center, I'm waiting to take my hubby there in some sort of shoulder season (which is mostly gone, but maybe last week of January?) What's your other option??
