Florence-Americe cemetary and memorial

Just arrived back from a wonderful 8 day trip to Italy. While departing Florence on the way to Tuscany, we just happened to drive past the Florence-American WW2 cemetery. There are over 4000 Americans buried here. I was more than a little embarrassed and humbled that I didn't even know it existed, and just came upon it by chance.

It was powerful looking across all those markers.

I went to the American Cemetery in 2013,it is a very nice location, people dont realize that American troops were in Italy in 1943 and fought their way up the boot.

Like Frances, I stopped there on an RS tour. What got me were all the names of the missing on the wall. Truly a beautiful and memorable site.

We also visited this beautiful cemetery in May and the curator asked how we knew about it, as it gets very little traffic from all the American tour groups. The 4000 graves are arranged in beautiful formations and there are many informative exhibits about the war. Good to see our tax dollars doing some good for these heroes and their families.

Nice to see that some travelers are noticing that American soldiers did fight in Italy in WW2.
