Hi all. I'm heading out later today and I had a quick question about the tram from the Florence airport into town. In the past, I stopped at the little shop just before the door to get a ticket then validated it when I got on the tram. Is that still possible? I seem to remember reading you can tap in/out from the tram and buses now, but want to be sure. My household has been a whirlwind of activity the past few weeks and suddenly I need to be packed and ready, which I'm not. I'm normally a planner well in advance, so I appreciate this forum and your help.
As of April 2025 there were kiosks on the tram platform at the airport. You buy your ticket at the kiosk and validate it on the tram. This was also the case on my prior trips going back to 2019. I don't recall seeing a shop.
Buon viaggio!
And you can tap and pay on board with a chip embedded credit card. Just did so week of Thanksgiving.
Thank you both for responding. I suppose tap and go is easier. It’s nice to have options. I’m so looking forward to seeing Florence all lit up again!
The shop was still there last fall.
It’s the magazine/candy/ tobacco shop within the airport, so it will still be there.
I’m sure it will still sell tickets.
I like buying mine there as the platform machines are busy and crowded sometimes.
If you use tap and go on board using a credit card, remember that each traveler must use a separate credit card. In other words you can’t tap and go with one credit card to pay for two people in the party. Each will need to use their own credit card.. I usually like to purchase the paper ticket at the kiosk on the platform then validate it on board (I’m old school, I like paper trail). You can search on youtube videos to see how it works and what the machines look like. Tobacco shops also sell those paper tickets (including the one inside the airport).
