Florence airport to train station

Hi. Question: How long via cab does it take to get from Florence airport to the train station? We will be flying from France and I am debating if I should buy our train tics now. Also, what is the airport like? Does the luggage generally get out quickly and do we have to go through customs/immigration flying from France?
Thank you,
Karen

Where are you going?
It is exactly like a US domestic flight.

When I flew into Florence a few years ago, the wait for luggage was long, approx 45 minutes. It is a small airport.

Karen,

In my experience, luggage retrieval in Florence shouldn't take long, but that will likely depend on how many flights arrive at the same time. It's a smaller airport so not as far to walk. As I recall, my Pack was on the Carousel within about 10-15 minutes.

There's a Shuttle from the airport into Florence, but if time is an issue I'd suggest a Taxi. The trip should be about 15 minutes to Firenze SMN station, and the cabs charge a flat rate (I believe it's about €28 but may vary depending on time-of-day and amount of luggage).

Q1: the distance is short (6km, which is less than 4 miles) but the time varies depending on traffic, which can be heavy. In any case it won't be more than 25-30 min. The taxi costs a flat rate of 20€ plus 1€ per bag. There is also a surcharge of about 4€ at night (10pm-7am I think) and on Sunday/holidays.
Q2: what is your destination you are trying to reach by train?
Q3: the airport is smaller than any commercial airport I have seen in America. I know it's a shame for a city like Florence.
Q4: generally it doesn't take long to get your luggage.
Q5: no customs and no immigration coming from France.

Don't buy tickets ahead of time. Most or all of your trip will be aboard regional trains, which offer no discounts. The cost of the tickets from Florence to Monterosso is rather low anyhow. Buy your tickets when you get to the station.

Karen,

Are you clear on the trains you'll be using to travel from Florence to Monterosso? You could be using a combination of InterCity / Freccia / Regionale with one or two changes, depending on which trains you manage to connect with. What time does your flight arrive? Are you planning to buy tickets at a Kiosk or the staffed ticket window?

As Roberto mentioned, some of the trains will most certainly be Regionale, so DON'T forget to validate your tickets prior to boarding the train, or you'll risk hefty fines!

As you're flying from France, it's less likely there will be flight delays (although anything is possible). If your trip is taking place soon, most of the discounted tickets will probably be sold out, so no point in buying in advance.

Karen,

If you are flying from Paris, you can fly Easyjet from Orly directly to Pisa. Should save some

time as well as $$
