I will be arriving into Florence at night. I know the exchange kiosks are not the best option, but I will need to immediately get enough Euros for the cab to my lodging. Where is the best place to do this in the airport, at night? Thank you!
Night won't be a factor. ATMs aren't hidden in the dark. If they're not bank-owned, use them anyway, or use a kiosk. Worst case, get a hundred euro and suck up the five-buck loss. Regroup the next day. Full disclosure: that's universal advice good for anywhere in the world - - I haven't been closer to the Florence airport than the drop-off area in fifteen years.
There is an ATM at the airport you can use. it is in the corridor on the way out of the airport. You have to look for it, it's kind of hidden, not obvious. Before you head outside to get a taxi, look for the ATM on the wall, as you walk from the baggage claim area through the door, turn right and walk until you see the ATM on your LEFT.
Wow, thanks! I have a double connection and will be exhausted when I arrive, so your detailed reply is especially appreciated. :)Shari
Where are your accommodations? The City of Florence established a 20 euro flat fee for taxis from the airport to the city center. Even adding the baggage fees it won't be over 25 euro.
Just get 50 euro before you leave the US and you are set even if the ATM is out of order. Any major US airport will have an exchange kiosk. The exchange rate is lousy but for 40 or 50 euro it won't bust your budget.
Super-helpful! Thank you!! I am in city center. My connection is through Paris, so now my fingers are crossed that the strike gets worked out before Sunday!
One thing you might look into at your U.S. departure airport is a Travelex ATM. These ATMs dispense Euros, Yen and one other currency. Just use your ATM card. You pay small fee and the conversion rate is not great, but in seconds, you walk away with Euros. Also, during business hours, a staffed Travelex is nearby the ATM. Just did this at SFO for a nephew who is traveling to Europe for the first time. I wanted to give him some Euros as a gift.
You're going to hub through Atlanta. Travelex has booths and machines in the international terminal.
Thanks to everyone for the great tips! Much appreciated! Ciao,
