We're staying near the Florence train station (at Kattihouse, thanks Rick Steves helpline!) but the busses don't leave early enough. Any suggestions for a dependable taxi service, or should we stay the last night at an airport hotel? I wish we could just go to the airport the night before (we won't really get any sleep anyway since we need to leave at 4am) but the airport closes at night. I saw some postings re: early flights but none were from this year, so I'm re-posting for any updated ideas.

Hi Fran. Just ask / have the hotel arrange a taxi. Not sure why you say you need to leave at 4am; it's not a long ride to the airport and it's a small airport.

Plus, it is not an international flight so you could easily get there between 5 and 5:30 and be OK. If you leave the hotel at 5 via taxi you will be in good shape.

I'm still betting that the airport doesn't even open until 5:00am. First flight out is 6:30am. This is a small airport. No jumbo jets here. Just 737s or small Airbuses. I have the airport's web page but I don't see operating hours. It used to be 5:30am - 11:00pm but that was a few years ago.
