Florence After A Day Group Tour. Unusual way to wind down in small "bits" of time?

Hello, everyone, huge "Rick Steves Europe" fan from U.S. finally making it to Florence, and thrilled.

This is directed to tourists and also Fiorentini. Will be on my own for a couple days before wedding festivities begin and planned a Florence in One Day and Tuscany in One Day to get a good look in a short period of time.

Can anyone suggest some "wind down" activities on a Friday and Saturday night (early, not later than 22:30 or so, I get up around 06:00 hrs. every day and am not a night owl or a big partier ) after a long day of organized stuff.

I am thinking buying gifts, maybe getting some gelati. Am hoping to crash learn enough Italian to chat with people, if anyone knew off-the beaten path idea for place conducive to just chatting, or doing something unusual, bocce, bowling, cat grooming, [NOTE: This is a joke, I think I will pass on the cat grooming.. : 0 ) etc.

Thanks, again, very excited. If you see a sturdy 50'ish matron being carried out with Stendhal Syndrome early next May, that'll probably be me.

TANTI AUGURI!

I wouldn’t know where to start.
It’s a very vibrant small city with dozens of international academic institutions, tens of thousands of university students, and millions of tourists. As you can imagine there are more activities than one can describe in a few words here and new ones come up every day. Keep an eye on what may be going on at the time you are there.
