Florence accommodations

Can anyone recommend accommodation in Florence for June for myself and my husband? Our primary considerations are (1): quiet, (2) air-conditioned, (3) comfortable bed, (4) under €150 per night. Florence is a lovely city but on 2 previous occasions the vespas kept us awake all night. Oh, also we would need to be within walking distance of city center. That said, we can walk in a relatively fast clip for 30 minutes or so. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you might offer.

I check out accommodations using Google Maps. I zoom into where I want to stay and Google displays the options. You can then click on each hotel/apartment/B&B to see reviews and their website. Works for me.

Kay,

Have a look at the Italy guidebook, as there are lots of accommodations listed there in various price ranges. One that you could consider is Katti House (they also operate a restaurant on the ground floor).

If you'll have a car, consider Hotel Silla. It's on the other side of the river, at the bottom of the hill that Piazzale Michelangelo is on. It's in a night time only ZTL (you can drive there during the day), it has on-site parking in their own garage, and is a 10 minute walk to the Uffizi and Piazza della Signoria. It meets all your criteria (it maybe just over €150 if you add in parking). It's worth considering even without a car. We stayed there 3 nights last month and enjoyed our stay.

I just returned from Italy and my 6th stay (in some 15 years) at Hotel Casci, (hotelcasci.com, Via Cavour 13). Love, love this small, friendly hotel. About a 14 minute walk from the train station, and two blocks up the street from the Duomo - one block from the pedestrian area. Fabulous location, very clean, and - due to modern, dual-pane windows - VERY quiet at night. Clean, comfortable rooms (good heat and A/C), strong wifi, wonderful breakfasts, warm, welcoming people, who will do anything they can to help you - and well within your budget. I really don't understand why they're not listed in Rick's books, but oh, well. Strongly recommend this hotel!

I am booked into Hotel Casci based on a friends recommendation in a few weeks. Her review was almost identical to yours. She loves the place.

Just completed a 3 night stay at Residenza Giotto B&B. It was a perfect fit for my sister and I. Large room, great reception staff, nice bathroom, air conditioning that you control, good little breakfast, and a wonderful terrace looking directly at the bell tower & duomo. About a 1 minute walk to the piazza del duomo and very central to everything (nothing we did was more than a 10-12 min walk at most). It was 98E per night for a double room. The only thing is that one or two of the nights were a little noisy for a bit (a Friday and saturday night) - however, we had a room overlooking the busy Via Roma, and I know they have other rooms NOT overlooking the street. Good luck!

I stayed at the Relais Grand Tour and loved it--they have three very reasonably priced suites with a small shared garden area. It was very quiet and the family that runs this B & B lives in the building. We walked everywhere. There are photos and reviews on Trip Advisor. It's also in Rick's guidebook.

Thanks again, everyone for your replies. Most of the accommodations seem to be booked already for our dates. We did find a B&B on the Oltoarno, Casa Annusca, which looks very good. We also liked the reviews. I'll report back after our stay. Again, grazie mille.

Kay, when you say that "most of the accommodations seems to be booked for our dates", this is for June 2016, correct?

Is this from simply looking online? If yes, they may in fact not be... some may not have put in their availability online yet for next June. Try e-mailing your first choices directly. Don't give up on a central location yet!

I'd also suggest Katti House. They have three locations, one does have a lift if that's an issue.

I love Locanda Giovanna on Via Faenza. Bare bones, on the 3rd floor, maybe the 4th, and very reasonable. I have stayed there whenever I am in Florence since the mid 70's.

Oh, and no lift.
