Florence Accommodation

Hi again :) I'm having some trouble figuring out Florence standards. Is Florence a walking city like Venice? I'm trying to find a B&B or small hotel in the central area (on a map, within the SS67) but most places seem very expensive. The cheapest I found was 114E/night for a double bed/10 sqm room at La Dimora Degli Angeli. If this is standard for Florence in September, that's okay! I just can't seem to figure out what standard IS. We would like to be in a 15-20 minute walking distance to sights and local restaurants. I didn't get the impression that the area around the train was the best. Our max budget a night is about $140CAD (106E). Any advice and recommendations are much appreciated!

The Relais Tiffany is a great little place quite near the center of things in Florence. I am pretty sure it is under your budget - I can't remember precisely now, but I am certain we paid under 100 Euros per night. Florence does seem expensive and we felt lucky to have found such a nice place for the price. Their website is http://relais-tiffany-firenze.com

Look at Hotel Johlea on Via Gallo (near the Accademia). We stayed there two years ago (May) for 90 Euros per night. It is a nice small hotel and the location is good. We walked everywhere with the exception of taking a taxi to Santa Maria Novella train station. The owners have several small hotels so try google for details.

La Dimora degli Angeli is very highly regarded on Tripsdvisor. It is closer to the Duomo than the train station, and not at all in the seedy area around the train station. That sounds like a great price, actually. I checked for rooms on Venere.com and for a mid-September they want $175-$200 US a night (depending on view). In Florence you can't be close to "all" the sites, just some of them. We stayed someplace closer to the Uffizzi and the Ponte Vecchio, but then it was a longer walk to the Duomo and Accademia. And it was 120 euros a night for two. But if you want to have a look: http://www.casadeitintori.it/en/

If you stay in the Oltrarno area (South of the river), you may pay less. However it would be hard to find a 3 star hotel in Florence for under 100 Euro. I'll give you the name of a hotel between the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Pitti. They have a roof restaurant & bar with a $1 million 360 degree view to die for. It's a 3 star and for Sept. they show around 105 euros, which isn't bad for a 3 star. They also have apartments/B&B rooms across the street for less (you may have to inquire via phone). see if you like it, but when you search keep an eye on the Oltrarno area.

I was going to suggest you stay at Hotel Cosimo de' Medici across from the train station, but their price has doubled in the last year to $205. Ouch! Florence is a good walking town, however. You can also use public transportation if your accommodations are just too far out. There are hundreds and hundreds of places to stay in. See Booking.com and AirBnB.com for rooms.

We stayed at Hotel Dali, located approx 2 blocks from il Duomo, near a market and centrally located. We walked everywhere! They have 2 especially lovely rooms on the courtyard with private baths at 85 euros/night. I would contact Marco asap to see if they have availability. They even have arrangements for parking available. We were very pleased with this simple but friendly small hotel. PM me if you need any more info.
