Florence Accademia

We went to the Florence Accademia and viewed the various artwork and sculptures. My question is, why did all of the sculptures have nails in them? They were covered in them, it looked like Hellraiser was there. I assumed it was for measuring them or something but it really took away from the works. Does anyone have any idea on this? Of course David was fine but pretty much everything else was covered from head to toe (if they had toes). None of any other museums have been like this that we have gone to.

I don't remember seeing anything like that. You are not referencing the four unfinished sculptures in the room prior to David, are you?

Do you mean the room with the plaster casts? If so, those were for students to study and replicate. The pins would be reference markers for replication. None of those are actual original sculptures.
